Spoon or melon baller
Buy two inexpensive, richly coloured gourds.
Use a sharp knife to cut the gourds in half, then hollow out with a melon baller or spoon.
Cut a notch in the side of the gourd to hold a demitasse or salt spoon.
Dry with paper towel, then heap one with salt as well as the other with pepper.
Note: Gourds must last for three or four days before starting to shrivel.
